firebird headlight question

hey everyone, i have a question about how firebird headlights work...
what controls the motor going up/down, and what starts and stops teh motor when it reaches the desired point?
i don't own a firebird, or i'd just look at the wiring
however, im workin on a project for either my camaro or my caddy...
i acquired a 3rd gen firebird headlight, i believe its out of an 87, and im converting it into a retractable liscence plate frame. i took out the headlight, the plastic piece, and some other useless crap, so basically its just stripped down to two hinged moving parts. I duct taped a liscence plate to it and tried it out. they way i have it set up, if it were bolted under a car, the liscence plate would be showing. When the headlight folds, the liscence plate rotates so that its not visible to anyone behind the vehicle. anyway, when i touch the wires onto a battery the motor moves.

How would i properly set up the wiring?
I'm an electrician, so i kno how it all works, but i just need to know exactly what i might need. i assume i'f need either limit switches or timed relays. Eventually, i'd like to wire it up to the button on my cadillac keyfob that opens the gas door (pointless)

thanks!

i believe the motor stops from resistance, on the bird theres no switch it just shuts off when the rods hit the stops

yea, my first hypothesis is that it stopped with a change in resistance or an increase in current draw, but my issue is, i want to use momentary pushbuttons with holding contacts, and i need something to cut the power when it reaches the desired position
-thanks!
