HELP!!!starting issues

hey all, i have a 92 rs. its a 305 auto. it had a viper alarm with remote start. the alarm went bad, so it was removed. the car does everything fine, but it will not crank. i think it's the starter, but is there anything with the factory alarm thats not letting it crank? the security light is on. how do i reset the security light? what is wrong with it?

Did your no start problems start about the time you removed the viper alarm system?
You will also get more help on this in the electronics forum.

yeah. the alarm system went bad, causing it to auto arm and go off when it felt like it. (ie 2:30 am on a monday night) so i removed it and i was surprized on how ****ty it was installed. nothing crimped, no soider, just wires wrapped and taped. they didn't cut anything factory which is good, i guess? is there like a fusible link for the starting system? is there something with the factory security light being lit causing the non-cranking issue?this is such a headache with our 75-85 degree dry days lately. thanks upfront for any help and suggestions given. thanks, Patrick

I'm not sure if this will help you or not but if your alarm had a starter disable then the thick yellow wire under the stearing column was most likely cut and spliced into. If you didn't reconnect that wire then your car won't crank. It goes to the neutral saftey switch or clutch switch if you have a manual. I had a similar problem last april when i was trying to get my car started and that turned out to be the cause.

Actually, it wouldn't be a yellow wire going to the park/neutral switch. It would be a dark green wire going from the starter enable relay to the park/neutral switch if that was where they spliced into the circuit. The yellow wire 3gc mentioned on your car goes from the igniton switch to the starter enable relay.

I didn't realize 92s were different. Mine used the thick yellow wire.

I have an 87. I didn't think about the differences with the wiring in a vats car.

Have you checked to see if the purple wire on the starter is getting power when the key is turned to start?

i checked all connections last night. big yellow wire is hooked, the green, the pink, and no power to the purple wire going to the starter. neutral safety switch is good, too. where is the vats starter enable relay and what does it look like? i'm pretty sure thats what went south...thanks, Patrick

It is located behind the left kick panel and has four wires going to it. They will be a yellow wire and a pink wire coming from the ignition switch. A dark green wire going to the park/neutral switch and a black/yellow wire going to the VATS control module. Here is a picture of the starter enable relay and its general loaction, this varies in different models as to the precise placing of it. Just look for the wires mentioned above if you don't see it.
