Charging problem solenoid???

ok I made a stupid mistake and put a wire on a wrong terminal and thats why I am posting this thread.
I have a remote after mrkt solenoid mounted on my firewall, I have a push button starter setup etc. on the solenoid there are 4 terminals to conncet wires to. 2 terminals are small and 2 are large.one of the large ones has the battery cable hooked up to it and the other large terminal is the cable that goes to the starter. what I did was put the bat terminal wire from the alternator which was originally on the battery cable terminal stud and put it on the stud that the starter cable is on. now when I check the battery with a volt meter it says 12 volts when the car is running and not 14.5 like it did min prior to this brainfart. I changed the alternator since I just happened to have a spare laying around but that didn't fix the problem. the battery is new or at least it was last friday (Orbital battery). did I just fry the remote solenoid??? when I put the volt meter on the Bat terminal it reads 12 volts when the car is running, and that didn't change with the alternator swap, this should read 14.5. WHAT DID I DO, OR SHOULD I DO OTHER THAN NEVER TOUCH ANOTHER WIRE AGAIN UNDER MY HOOD.

You just need to swap the terminal from the alternator over to the other stud - the one coming from the battery. As it sits now, you're trying to 'charge' the starter motor instead of the battery.

I did put the bat term wire back to the correct terminal but I still get no charging of the battery.

Have you checked the fusible link in that red wire in the alternator connector? It is down at the starter solenoid.

update, I took both alternators to Napa and had a friend of mine test both of them. the one off of the parts car came up bad, the one that was on my good Trans Am put out good power but still came back bad b/c of some internal malfunction I guess.they were both bad but for diff reasons. I am hoping that the alt that was on the parts car was already bad and the one that was originally on my Trans Am was damaged when I crossed the wires. I ordered a diode today and will get it tomorrow and try that first b/c thats the cheapest and easiset fix, hopefully I will keep you guys updated.

well I tried a new diode in both alternators neither alt is any good. I think the parts car one was just plain shot to begin with b/c of how things looked inside, but the one that was originally on my car must have gotten fried when I crossed the wire. I did buy a 100 amp alt and now is ok with the world
never though I would smoke an alternator from something like that. BECAREFULL if any of you are wiring up a remote solenoid, make 100% sure of your wire locations or you will be getting a new alternator.
