I know this is a shot in the dark--but on the large plug of my 89 tpi ecm setup there's a black wire w/pink stripe on it--it's cut and just hanging--coming from the ecm--it's a hot wire(I think it's keyed). Anyone have an idea what it might be for? Car has trouble starting--even has a new battery--will only start when jumped from another car--but runs great after that.
Any ideas?

If it is coming from pin "C2", it is for the Air Diverter Control Valve. If it is coming from pin "D15", it is for the fuel injectors (1,3,5,7). If it is coming from pin "A6", then it is a pink/black wire and is for the ignition.

Once it starts it's fine--so I think that would rule out the injectors on 1 bank--air divertor--no biggie since it isn't there anyway--now the ignition--that's interesting. I'm not sure if you remember Trickster--but I'm having a starting issue w/this car. I wonder if that could be the cause--although---the car did crank over and start on its own yesterday after I took if for a ride(after jumping it).
DAMN CAR!!

Yes, I remember about your starting issues, that is why I included that one about the ignition. You won't know until you look, right!!!!!!!!!!!!

What would be the best way to check if it is the ignition wire?
All I have is a test light.

That would be one way unless the wire is hanging from the ECM harness, look at the connector on the ECM harness and see what pin it is coming from. Now is that wire black with a thin pink stripe or pink with a thin black stripe?

Okay, what pin number is it coming from? If I knew that, then I could tell you exactly where it goes. I have already given you the two locations that a black/pink wire would go. There is also a black/red wire that goes to pin "B3" of the ECM that is for the distributor reference input(LOW).

Ok, I have to check it--but it's been raining here for almost a whole week.
Thx for getting back to me.
