Oil Pressure Sending Unit woes
2.8 -> 3.1.
Need I say more? Whats the difference between the two engines in terms of their oil pressure sending units and fuel pump cutoff switches? My oil pressure gauge is pegged and I need to know the difference.

The 3.1L engine uses just the single unit that combines the fuel pump/oil pressure switch and oil pressure sending unit in one component. The 2.8L uses two components.

A diagram might help... does the white wire still connect to the dash like in the older style?.. AFAIK this is a 3 wire unit. One has to be for the dash, and the other two act as the power/ground for the fuel pump in case the relay system fails or the oil pressure drops suddenly.
I should have asked if there is a difference between the two in terms of resistance when high oil pressure is present (how's about 70PSI at idle.. that gauge pegs off the chart!)...
I will check tomorrow to see if the wiring is correct and if the gauge reads at 0 PSI when the ignition is set KOEO.. I know that if the gauge pegs then, it's not hooked up..
I have to adjust the needle on the volts gauge anyways (reading a full volt under verified at the shop with a DMM).

It should be a tan wire going to the instrument panel and should read 90 OHM's at max pressure (60 PSI)and 0 OHM's with no pressure (0 PSI)
And you are correct about the wires. In the 90 - 92 models the fuel pump/oil pressure switch sending unit was a back-up in case the ECM failed.

AFAIK the wiring hasn't changed... I'm still using the 2.8 wiring and ECM/PROM, probably meaning that the OPS connector was spliced in. So I happen to be looking for the tan wire connecting to the white wire if the gauge is in fact not hooked up.
Thanks again Trickster! :hail:

Sorry I had to bring this topic back, but I just picked up the connector from the dealers a few min ago. Got a prob here:
ALL THE WIRES ARE WHITE!
It's the proper connector, all right, but I can't connect it because the wiring isn't color coded. I need a pinout of the connector if someone has one.

Not a problem Maverick, if you got the one for the 3.1L oil sender, here are the pin color codes. Pin "A" = tan wire to indicator, pin "C" = gray and goes to fuel pump and goes to the ECM, pin "D" = orange wire and goes to pin "A" of the fuel pump relay, ECM and 20 AMP in-line fuse. Hope this helps.
Forgot to add that there is no pin "B" on the connector.

Could you get me a pic of the end of the connector? The only labeling on the entire thing is the coding on the wires and the word "DELPHI" on one side of it.
 :hail: TY!
NVM, the lettering was on the back... I didn't find it until I looked hard at the thing...

Been on the other side of the state since yesterday morning. Put the sensor in today (had to pick it up yesterday before we left and had the wiring done the night before) and IT WOIKS! TY again Trickster!!
