Help required - Where to earth...?

Hi all

I have a bit of a dilemma, I'm from the UK and own a 1984 Trans Am. It's in a bit of a state but it runs. Well, it did until recently.

It's a 305 V8 and the alternator blew about a week ago. I've just got the new alternator and, stupidly, I've taken the main earth from the battery off the car and cannot remember where it went!

It's the thick single lead that runs from the negative terminal on the battery.

I've looked on the block and on the alternator mount and cannot find anywhere to put it. Is there a place it's supposed to go?

The Haynes manual doesn't cover this bit...

Thanks in advance.

The large ground will be below the alternator. See picture in next post.
