Still not charging right...

Well, had the Alt tested, it was ok. Had the batt tested again, tunrs out it was bad. So, I got a new battery, charged it up good, started the car, and I still have 12 volts. The volts dont go down when I put load on it (well, they go down, but it comes back up). I am really confused on this. I dont know why I only have 12 volts. I check all my wires, and they look ok. What the hell can be causeing this?

Are you going off of the volt gauge in the car?It could be wrong.I would check it at the back of the alt.My old t/a did the same thing but it was intermittent. It ended up being the voltage regulator in the alt.

Are you reading the voltage from the battery terminals or the voltage guage while you have the car running?

Alt is good, puts out 14.2 volts according to the tester at AZ.

I am waiting to get a vom, so I am going by the aftermarket voltmeter I have in the car.

While you are waiting check the fuse in the fuse panel marked "chg/fan". Upper right on inside fuse block.

On his car it would just be marked "FAN" and is a 20 AMP fuse that also covers the Coolant Fan Relays. Good call Danno!!

There is no fuse in the fan one, I took it out when I hooked a manual switch to the fan, could this be the prob? It has been out for months, this prob only started 2 weeks ago.

And yes, it had 14.2 volts under load.

The "FAN" fuse is what that brown (tan/white) wire in the alternator connector goes to. Put a fuse in it, if it doesn't work you've only wasted about 20 seconds of your time. If it does work you will be a very happy camper.

There is now brown wire on my ALT, just a red wire and a black wire on a connector, and a thick red wire that goes to a screw on on the back.

I put the fan fuse in, no change.

I used a DMM at the wires coming off the ALT and off the Batt, both read 12.24 according to the DMM. I also checked at the starter, and again, I had 12.24. Now what?
