Why would it be in automatic cars? Does it even work/come on?
I have an auto and never seen it come on, even if I leave it in third or down shift...

If you had read the post you would notice that I said some years (primarily the early years such as 82 - 84) You have the shift light option in your car, look to the right of the SES light and you will see the black lettering on the amber lense that says "SHIFT". In the later automatics, the option was disabled and the light bulb was removed. However the option is still there.

I know the option is there, because I can see it in the instrument panel. I was just asking how come it didn't come on... that's all.
