HELP! which wires are these?
Ok, my situation.
I pulled the LG4 out of my camaro, about 2 weeks ago. Now in its place is a 350HO, running a holley carb and a non cc HEI distributor.
My mess is the harness, this is the only thing, besides the shift kit, keeping me off the road.
I have some pictures that i need identified, if you can help me w/ this that'll be awesome.
on to the pic... Is this the 12v wire from the ignition? If so, what needs done so i can wire it to the "batt" terminal on my dizzy?

in the second pic, that purple wire seems to be a ground.
i have the wires going to the water temp sensor and the oil pressure sensor hooked up, so i know which ones those are.
do you see anything else in this jumble on my fender i may need down the road?
thanks,
brandon

In the first pic, I believe those are the coil wires. You can use female spade terminals to hook them to the terminals in the HEI cap. Pink is for ignition and white is for tach signal.
The thick purple wire in the second pic looks like the start wire. GM typically uses a 10 or 12 gauge purple wire going from the clutch safety switch (or park/neutral switch for automatic cars) to the S terminal on the starter solenoid. I have no clue what the light blue wire is.
Trickster will correct me if I'm wrong.....this is his thing. :hail:

yah... the purple wire does trace back to the rest of the starter wires. thanks. i'll put that over there then.
so the pink goes to the batt side and the white goes to tach, i have my coolant and oil sensor wires plugged in.
so it should crank over then right, once properly wired up?
oh and i should connect all my ground wires to something then too right?
forgive me if i misunderstood anything...
thank you,
brandon

MAKE SURE you have a good, heavy ground strap between the block and the body. Otherwise the chassis will try to ground itself to the block through things like the throttle cable and fuel lines, which leads to big trouble. I used a spare foot of 4ga amp power cable for mine.
Otherwise, it sounds like you're good.

both are strait to the gauges
oil sender, either at the back of the intake or down by the filter and the coolant sensor in the drivers side head

My block-chassis ground runs from one of the accessory holes in the back of the passenger side head to a hole drilled and tapped into the top of the passenger side subframe rail. It just seemed better than the firewall because the rail is thicker....therefore more conductive.
If you do it this way be sure to strip the paint off from around the hole so the terminal makes good contact. Then spray it liberally with an anti-corrosive like that red stuff for battery terminals so it doesn't rust.
And Dave's right about the gauges.
