shirft indicator light AT
need a little help
just took my '86 bird through NJ inspection; and the people that work there failed my car because of a shift indicator light was incorrect.
apparently now to pass inspection your car must tell you what gear it is in. this car never did and i never had to have a light telling me to. is there any way i could fix it so it does this? thanks

only thing i can suggest to you is that your "indicator" is dirty. obviously those PRNDL's are fixed on the plate, but alot of times what happens is that the "ribbon" in there gets full of dirt, so you can't see it. has the same effect as the letters looking like they're wearing out when they're really not. you'll need to take your shifter plate off, and then CAREFULLY pry off the other part where the "ribbon" is, clean your ribbon all off, and your other surfaces and you should be good to go. hope this helps.
