i found this Morso electric water pump on Jegs that claims to free up to 20 horses and i was woundering if any of you guys had them and what you thought putting one in.
i know ide have to change the belts around to do it but is there anything else ide need to do?

20 horespower? Are you certain there wasn't a decimal point in there, as in "2.0 horsepower"?
If your current belt driven water pump is taking 20 HP from your crankshaft, you have a SERIOUS mechanical problem with that pump and drive system. If you don't believe that, search through some power transmission catalogs to see the peak power rating of the belt drive system you are using. That belt system is not capable of transmitting 20 HP to anything. That kind of claim just doesn't stand up to the light of reason.
A properly installed mechanical water pump might rob 3-5 HP at peak RPM, not 20.
There's another question I just HAVE to ask. Did the advertisement also indicate that the parasitic load of the water pump is transferred from the direct belt system to the alternator when changing to an electric type? That alternator still has to make power from the same crankshaft.

On the LT1 cars, going to an electric pump frees up 10 FWHP, or 8 RWHP.
Only other thing to do is the wiring.
I like to wire up the elec. pumps this way,
Main power for the pump from the battery to a relay.
Ignition On circuit energizes the relay and turns on the pump. Also, run a 20amp fuse (or whatever size is recommended by Moroso) between the battery and the relay.

i think that "frees up" was the wrong term to use, the add states "adds up to 20HP". it doesnt say anything about transfering the load to the alternator either.
heres the link morso electric pump
thanks for the wiring tip Zepher
