HUD Info
Anybody have any info on retrofitting in one of these units?
How they mount, wired, downfalls of retrofitting.
I'm toying with the idea but haven't actually seen a unit out of a car or any info at all for that matter.
More or less fishing for more winter projects.
TIA

That could be a problem but it's not out of the question since it will be a few months down anyway.
What is the coating? Know anything about it.
Does anyone have a schematic?
If it is just power, ground and comm I can probly dig, but if it's more than that I'd be better off with good info.
I figure I'd use a 91-92 unit maybe from a vette.
I didn't see any info in the schematics I have for the 91.
Any ideas?

I've got a HUD in my 92 Cutlass Supreme, I'll see if there's anything in the factory manual.

whats intresting is.... you dont need a coating on the windshield for it to work.
for a quick example, take a CD, place it on the dash and look at the windshield. the CD appears to be floating there. (obviously this example only works in daylight, but you'll get the idea)

You need either a semi-reflective coating, or a REALLY bright display. Try to read the CD while driving toward the sun.

eh, its not really a coating, but a layer made into the windshield..
im sure everyone here has seen this:

and like he says, it doesnt work great in sunlight.... but im sure some combo of polarized filters could make it work.
with the location of the display, im sure ghosting could be minimized.

Isn’t there a “like tint” stuff just for this? I know the manufactures use a layer in the glass. But I thought there was some stick on stuff for retro-fit applications like this? Not tint but vary similar for the double image problem? Though it was suppose to be better then the tint and not as dark?

Thanks for the info guys, I never saw that Z site before.
I'm really interested in doing it using my 7730 to directly communicate with a GM unit.
Anybody know where the HUD heaven can be found?
The code already exists in the hacks to communicate with it, I'll just mod it into my AUJP to make it work (hopefully).
Do they mount to the bottom of the dash pad and you have to cut a hole?
Still not sure of the physical aspect of the thing.
TIA
