You can do it a million ways, all it does is cut power to something essential in the start process. You can cut the power to the whole car, you can cut the starter, cut the ignition wires that activate the starter, cut the power to the fuel pump, etc. All you need is an SPST switch and hide it somewhere.

A kill switch doesn't really fool many, especially if you don't hide the switch. I'd just put it in line with the ignition switched wire that goes to activate the starter. Fuel pump would be good too.

I used to install car alarms. The best method that I used to secure a non-garaged vehicle, was a fuel cut-off. Not a shut-off for the electric pump, but an actual cut-off. This involves putting a valve in the fuel line, with a tiny, or removable ****. The valve gets mounted under the floor, the **** being accessable under a flap in the carpet. Easiest when the line is already on the left side. Can also use an electric valve. This makes right-side installations easier. Wonderful thing about this, is that the stolen car is driven a few yards, and then it stalls. Much better than having the thief trying and trying, and destroying the car. Also, if you go the electric valve route, you can set up a relay that latches when you press a hidden pushbutton, and when you turn the ignition off, the relay un-latches, so that you have to press the hidden button every time you need to start the thing. Easiest when you can handle simple electric circuits.
Take it from someone whose Triumph TR-7 was nearly stolen by some Mafia-owned tow company, here in Brooklyn. If you can take the car into the building with you, do it. Remember George Jetsons' briefcase car?
