Trickster can you help, 87 Tpi Ecm,harness-85 Tpi Won't Start?

OK, I put an 87 ECM and harness in my 85 TPI IROC, won't start.
Need some help w/wiring,
87 harness to ECM has 2 connectors that go to ECM, also seperate strand of wires w/ clear conn. that has 2 rows of 8 pins lettered a-h,i-p?

The 85 harness to ECM has 2 conn. to ECM, also 2 seperate strands, 1 w/same clear conn. as 87, and the other to a small gray conn. that plugged into the piggy back module on the 85 ECM.

I know the MAS from the 85 isn't needed for the 87, but what do I do w/ the plug just hanging there w/ 2 pink/blk IGN 12v wires and 1 brn/blk wire? Aren't the pink ones from the INJ fuses, and if so where does the 87 setup get its power for the inj.?

Also the clear plug w/2 rows of 8, most of the wires match in color, but a few are wrong, like the two black wires that are coming from the injectors on the 87 setup. They are now connected to a red/blk and pink/blk. This can't be right!
I was told that I could put the 87 setup in place of the 85 w/o these problems, I knew better, nothing is ever easy if someone tells you, oh yeah, it will hook right up!
Anyway if someone else has successfully done this before, PLEASE let me know if there are certain wires I need to move around on the clear plug to the harness under the pass. side dash?

Another thing is the fuel pump only runs if I hot wire it, worked fine with the 85 system! Term. G on the ALDL conn. won't even power it up.

If you are still using the 85 wiring harness inside the car with an 87 ECM along with an 87 wiring harness in the engine bay. Then you have some serious re-wiring to do.

I was hoping you weren't going to say that.

Yes I am using the stock harness inside the car, I have a complete 87 harness, ecm, relays, etc.. I am still using the coil-in-cap dist., Ihave already changed the plug, wires were the same. Already re-wired the alt., now I still have no fuel pump unless I put 12v to it, and my inj. have power on both sides, but the don't blink the noid light when cranking.?
I guess I'm already serious about re-wiring?

Any help won't go unnoticed.
thanks

Doug

Give me a couple of days to chill out from work and I will put some wiring diagrams together for you from a 85 & 88 camaro sevice manual, not a haynes or chilton.

:hail: :hail: Man, that would be great, by the way, will it matter if my new harness is from an 87? Because it's my understanding, the 87 had dual fans and I'm a little confused about the plug up front for the fan. But anything to get me in the right direction would be good. All I have is the Haynes and Chilton books.

That one gets connected to dash wiring. Where are the dash to ECM connections in your dash harness? Surely they are still present somewhere.

The 85 harness to ECM has 2 conn. to ECM, also 2 seperate strands, 1 w/same clear conn. as 87, and the other to a small gray conn. that plugged into the piggy back module on the 85 ECM.
Trace those ones from the small grey connector; they are for MAF. Because 85 used a separate relay box, that will be diff. than 87.

You need to sit down with an 85 wiring diagram and an 87 diagram. Connect what's the same circuit number and figure out those items which are not the same circuit number. That's what I did on an L69 to LB9 swap.

Already done all that, the thing is I don't have a good shop manual, only haynes, so now I'm down to two or three wires that route to the othe side of firewall an the 87 harness. one is the test wire for the fuel pump(term G) on ALDL, another is a pink/blk wire from the diff. emission solenoids, purge can, etc. It goes in through the bulkhead on d. side now(87) those circuits used to run off of i/p conn. on p. side. I did finally figure out why my fuel pump relay would come on for 2 sec. but pump wouldn't run. On the 87 harness the tan/white fuel pump power wire ran to one of the term on the alt. plug, since I am using my 85 alt. (2 wire) I didn't need that extra wire, so I thought. after hours of chasing wires I figured out that extra wire I didn't think I needed actually needed to be spliced into the tan/white splice coming from the relay. Pump works great now, primes 2 sec. then runs again after you start cranking. Now just if I can get those injectors to run.
I'm going to have the dist. components tested tomorrow. Then I don't know what.:lala:
