remote starter working sometimes
Hello people, I have a quick question regarding a remote starter. I bought my 91 tpi 305 Camaro about seven years ago and it came with a "CODE ALARM" security system with remote entry locks, remote opening of the hatchback and remote starter. OK, the remote starter doesn't work most of the time. When it doesn't work something clicks inside. This is what I need to know. What clicks?. Where is this system located inside the engine, what does it look like and what can I do to make it work?. I have changed starters and the one I currently have is new so I know it is not the starter. Its got to be some mechanism attached to the ignition system or some cables etc allowing the starter to function but I have got no idea where that is and what to do to fix it. Every once in a while it works. Any help will be appreciated, thanks.

Should be a little black box under your dash, on the drivers side. That would be the alarm/remote start brain... Also under the dash should be a relay (Some older remote starts use several), it is possible that one relay is on it's way out. I suggest that you try replacing the relay(s) first.

My bet is a bad connection to the ignition harness. Take the bottom of the dash apart and have a look.
If you don't know how these connection should be made take the car to a reputable shop that does installs. Most mechanics will tell you they know what there doing with auto electrical work, but that's only because most don't know enough to know they don't know what there doing (did that make sense?).
Car fires happen where people play with wires.
