Mounted batt. in trunk; Starter seems sluggish. Bad connection?
I Relocated the battery to the trunk today. I used 2gauge wire. I grounded the negitive wire to a section of the body/frame after sanding the paint off. Now, The starter seems like it has to work harder than it used to. The volts are around 8-9v. while cranking the motor over. When it starts the volts are normal @ 12-14v.
The car drives fine, and everything seems normal, but could I be getting a bad connection, and less power to the coil? Or is it just the starter that's affected because of not enough amps going to it??

dropping to 8-9 volts is too much, the ECM needs to stay above 10 volts to work.
looking at the How to properly wire your electronics (Part 1), 2 gage cable may not be big enough to carry the amps you need to have. in the few cars that i moved the battery to the trunk we have always used 0 or 00 gage cable.
maybe someone else will jump in & have better some info for you.

Dang. I thought 2gauge would be ok. But Since the car seems fine, just fast as normal...All I'm really worried about is if the ignition system won't get enough power. Msd 6a, blaster coil, 8mm accell wires, borg warner cap&rotor......

i ran a 4 gauge ground wire from the drivers side head bolt hole down to the motor mount on the drivers side and that helped alot as well in transfering the current.

I have relocated the battery to the trunk in another vehicle I had and the grounds make all the difference. Overdo the grounds and that should be just right
I used 2 guage wire for grounds as well...remember not just to properly engineer the positive side of the wiring...
For the record...two guage wire is just fine for most applications.
