will an 85 v-6 alternator work on my 85 z-28. it looks like the posts are in different positions but it bolts in the same.

There will be a difference in the amperage output.

I just did that only to find out that the Amp off a '86 V-6 firebird
is slightly smaller (1 inch across less) than on a '86 V-8 Firebird TA
I ended up taking the rear bolt out of the black metal peice that the Alt attaches to on the top(the thing that has the gap where
the bolt slides to adjust Alt belt tension), and then I had to rotate
this black peice down about an 3/4 inch, then I tightened up the
bottom bolt real good, and left the rear bolt that went into the side of the front lower silver air runner off.
Make sure you look at the Amp difference,some only had 66 Amp's
