Vss Info!
after searchinfg for days, ive found (kinda) what all the different part #'s are for on the VSS.
hooking up a 4th gen speedo and i need the tailshaft mounted VSS and buffer box from the 86-89 firebirds.
d9a d9b and d9e are the options
d9a has a white connector, designed for automatic trans with a 40-45 tooth driven gear
d9e appears to be stock replacement for t5 (unsure of the gears)
d9b has a black connector, designed for automatic trans with a 34-39 tooth driven gear.
now my delima, i order the D9A from adcance.... pic showed a white connnector.... perfect. i get it.... it says "34-39" right on it. im assuming this means for 34-39 tooth gears.
well my 45 gear slips on it, so will it work, or will my speedo be off. you think they could be calibrated for a certain # of teeth and thats it, or just some sales related garbage?
hope ive shed some light, seems this is a sore subject.
if anyone has access to there vss, regardless of color.... do you have a white one that reads "40-45", or a black one for that matter?
they said i could return it, but hate to have them order another to have the same results.
if anyone might have a white connector vss that reads "40-45" ill take it off your hands.:hail:
everyone confused now?

thanks for the info, learn something new everyday.
when you say it doesnt go all the way through..... my gear is flush with the bar sticking out of the VSS... i dont see a problem with it, dont know why it would need to be longer.
if i ever get this speedo thing situated, i can get my gauges in and work on modifying the 4th gen a pillars to fit.... and actually make it look decent.

ive got 2 sets of a pillars at the moment. i was gonna cut it off at the T top mount and push it up to the factory 3rd gen one and run some black trim screws on the roofline.... shouldnt be too noticable. ive been hacking off material on the front to get them to sit at the windshield for a factory look and cut too much.... oops.
time to start over. im too picky to go with it not half way right.
i might have a set for sale if i dont mess these up.
ill get rid of them cheap, i dont have much in them.
thanks for the tips.
if the 34-39 and the 40-45 vss send the same pulse, i dont see why i couldnt use either.
