sometimes it starts, sometimes it dont

Hey guys, I have a electriacl problem that I have never seen before. Maybe someone else has expirenced this. 1 out of 5 times when I go to start the car nothing happens. lights work fine but it doesn't make a sound. There is a ticking sound coming from under the dash whenever I turn it off. The trick is that I found a way to override the problem and maybe this will help to lead to the root of the issue. Whenever the car won't start I simply remove the negative battery cable and then reconnect it and it starts everytime. It has a new starter and new battery.

take some electrical contact cleaner- clean the chip surface on the key and clean the probes in the ignition cylinder- that fixed my problems with vats. do a search on vats and youll see why.

If what AJT86 has suggested doesn't help, take a good look at the condition of the contacts on the key and the contacts in the lock cylinder. You may have to replace the key or both the key & lock cykinder.
