Ignition coil
Ignition coil
the other day I was idleing at a stop sign and the motor just died. today after testing everything it came out to be the coil. I went and bought a new one and put it in, the motor ran in the drive way fine. then I went to drive it and as soon as a got around the block it stalled. wouldnt start, so instantly i guessed it was the coil and went and replaced it. then went i put the second new one in this time it started up and about 3 seconds later it died right out and wouldnt start again. this tells me that something is making the coil go bad. I would like to know if anyone has had a problem similar or would know how to go about testing to stop the coil from going bad.

That sounds like a fuel problem. Maybe the pump is going out. You have gas in it right. Just my .02

is the dizzy cap on tight and it's holddown bolt?
is the car just dead until you put a new coil in?
Wouldn't a faulty ignition module throw a code?
Have you read the codes?

Ignition module.
Happened to me a few weeks ago. Went through two coils before I figured it out. Go to your local bone yard and pick one out of a decent distributor and grab a second one to put away for the next time.

Similar Problem
Same thing happened to me, I thought it was a fuel problem, but I've got no spark coming out of my coil, I know there's a couple things that can cause this, I did short/open checks on the coil and it came out fine, same for the pickup coil, so i was thinking it was most likely the ignition module itself.. sounds like thats the most common failure, is there anything I can check to be sure about which part is broke?

I think most <a style='text-decoration: none; border-bottom: 3px double;' href="http:/www.serverlogic3.com/lm/rtl3.asp?si=24&k=auto%20part%20stores" onmouseover="window.status='auto part stores'; return true;" onmouseout="window.status=''; return true;">auto part stores</a> can check the ignition module for you but you will have to remove it from the distributor.
