Electrical short - All rear lights/interior!?

Hey, I'm trying to find the problem but it's troublesome (as are all electrical!). I'm blowing my rear tail light fuse (usually under a hard bump). Here's all the info...

When the fuse blows I lose my main headlight assembly (to lift or lower the lights, but the lights themselves work), all rear lights (including reverse, stop, and turn), and the interior gauge cluster (I don't lose front lights, dome lights, or any other interior sets).

Also, and I'm almost positive that this is related...When the car is off the stereo unit remains powered! Everything else switches off or on, but the head unit is always powered!? My assumption is that it's a short around the fuse box b/c if I tap the dash, the head unit will power off and the headlight assembly will engage and lower the lights (go figure).

Any thoughts of how to go about finding it or suggestions? I've looked at the electrical manual in the Hayes book, but it seems the systems that are all being affected aren't neccessarily connected... Thanks for the help guys!

well have you installed anything new, like driving lights, any gauges or anything electrical?

Nope, haven't installed anything new at all. At first I had thought it was a loose connection in the stereo (b/c it stays on) so I pulled the center dash and checked...There was a bare ground showing on the harness hook-up, wasn't touching but I redid all the wires anyways and that didn't solve the problem so I'm getting ready to just start going through and checking all the grounds...my assumption is that I have a loose ground somewhere

well.. are you sure you rewired it correctly? and also. i dont think a ground would cause your cars' lights to act erratic like that. there is a wire touching another wire/body/ground.

Hmm, you may be right on the ground part, I'll definately be looking for that as I go...and yes I know my rewiring was done correctly, I redid the entire stereo harness and double checked my wires as I went . I don't like to redo things lol. Thanks for the double check though
