Are you just putting engine in the truck or the computer as well? If you're not putting the computer in it there is nothing to worry about. If you are putting the computer in it then just take the VATS control module, starter enable relay, and the lock cylinder and put it in also.

you have to measure the ohm rating on the original key that was used on the car that had the VATS system, then you have to get a resistor to match that value of i believe with a difference of no more than +/- 5% then "normally" when you bypass the vats system there will be a 2 really thin gauge wires with orange tubing around it running up to the column. there is a plug which you can pull apart and from there put the resistor on the side away from the ignition crossing across the 2 wires, this should bypass the vats system in thinking the correct key value is entered into the ignition.

From reading on this board, I believe most people say that gm only used 15 different key resistors. do a search on here for that thread and it will tell you which 15. then buy those resistors and trial and error until you find the one that works. permanently add it to your wires, then get a non resistor key.
*edit-i did the search for you, and found that the resistances were removed. something about it not being the boards policy to publish them. go to a shop that installs car alarms, and they should be able to tell you which resistors you need to try. sorry
