Odd Taillight problem
Hey guys,
I have a 91 Z and this just started tonight, in the rain no less. I came out to my car after class, turned on the headlights, and there is no light to the gauges. I also have no tail lights. Brake lights work fine, headlights/high beams work fine. I checked and had a blown fuse for the tail lights, no problems right? Wrong. Put in a new 20A fuse and it immediately blew when I turned on the lights. 25A ... blew. 30A ...blew. These lights were working fine last night, what gives? Any ideas??

seems like you have a short somewhere... go check your tail light to see if all the wires are ok

Start checking connections. If you blew the fuse more than once you probably got a bare wire somewhere.

Well all the wires under the dash look to be ok, from what I can see. Starting to rain a bit, so I'll go check out the tail lights themselves here shortly. Is it normal for this kind of thing to happen this suddenly?
Also, I recently installed some of those Pilot 55w driving lights where the fog lights used to be, and just wired the into the factory harness for the factory fogs. They were working fine. Could I have blown the relay? Could this be causing all this mess too?

All i can really say is double check your work and trouble shoot things. I always start from what i did last and go from there.

Alright, took the tail light assembly apart, everything looks good back there, dirty as hell, but all the wires are good. Working on stripping out all the bs stereo wires the previous owner had in there, maybe that has something to do with it ...

Found it. For some reason, on the driver sidemarker light up front, the idiot previous owner had a wire cap on the ground wire that went into the harness down to the marker light. Coming out of that wire cap was a 1/2"piece of wire with a bare end on it. Snipped it off, everything works great. Thanks for the tips guys.
