is there such thing as too large of a power wire for your car?

i recently had to add two extra batteries to my car totalling 3 now and they are all in the trunk. i have a 4 guage presently that ran power from my one and only main redtop in the rear. now i have 3 yellow tops and figure it would be a good idea to upgrade. i was told to run a 1 gauge which is pretty expensive but if it's necessary i'm all for it.

what do you guys think?

 

I'd say run a 4 or 2 for each, typically easier to route the smaller wire, and thinner under the carpet.

 

If you check at one of your welding supply stores in your area they will carry #1, 1/0, 2/0 copper stranded cable thats easy to work with & costa lot less! I've been told by them they can order in colors other then black too!

i have 18' of 1 guage that i bought to use for my stereo, it's long enough to make the passage up to the front but was $125 for the lot.

 

i need to run just one main up to the front. i currently have 4 but i have a much more extreme draw of power now so i was thinking of throwing the 1 guage on it. i'll use the 1 guage to connect the actual batteries yes but i wasn't sure what guage i should run up front for the engine.

 

i ran one guage wire from the battery in the back to the front. i believe it ran around $50 from a welding supply store.
