HVAC vents not opening

HVAC vents not opening
When I turn the hvac setting to any setting, I hear the blower working, but no air comes out of the vents. It all comes out of the defroster vents.
Is there ducting behind the dash that redirects the air depending on your hvac setting? I used to hear that sound when I turned the vent setting on, but now I dont.
What do i need to do to fix this?

Car: 1971 Camaro
Engine: 350
Transmission: TH350
on my 90 bird it was a faulty check valve in the engine compartment. it was right behind the intake by the firewall.
