On my dash there is a switch and a small red light. It seems to do nothing but I have seen it in pictures of other Firebirds. Anybody have an idea what this might be for?

 

Not sure exactly on your car, however on my car (89 IROC-Z) there is a small red light in the dash below the fog light switch. According to several individuals that I have talked to about this (mechanics & service managers at several dealerships), that red light was to be wired into an alarm system for the car. It's function was to indicate the status of the system. My 92 RS also had one of those in it.

 

Thasnks Trickster!!!! That was driving me crazy!!! Now to see if there are any connections to it. Who knows, may have an alarm system & didn't know it! ~M

 

yea i had the same little led light, its for the alarm, said "mystery switch" is for the valet mode. this switch on my 92 rs is down to the left of my foot. its way under there. anyways, with this switch on the car wont chrip when lcoekd/unlocked and the remote button to open the trunk wont work.

i went for like a week trying to figure out why my car wouldnt chirp or open the truck via remote. then i dug around down there and found it.
