ok this might be hard to get but ill give it a shot about a year ago i put in a new trans and the speedo didnt work well it stopped working right before i pulled my old one out which was caused by a pitch wire so i fixed that and after the new one was in i didnt work so i bought a used speedo thinking it could be that nothing, next i checked all the wires those were fine so i was told to replace the VSS sensor did that today nothing, so i hooked my old one up turn the key and the speedo moved so i know its ok the problem i founf next is the gears from the VSS and the gear on the tailshaft dont touch the one on the VSS is red and the one on the tailshaft is orange that doesnt seem right to me is that right? if not what color should it be its a 1987 Pontiac Trans Am GTA 5.7L RPO code D9B 3.27 gear ratio 700R4 can anyone check and tell me what theirs are? it would help me out alot thanks for all your help sorry so long Daniel

Okay, since you have a 3.27the colors should be as follows depending on the ID code on the transmission. With an ID code of "YZ", the drive gear shoud be grey with 15 teeth amd the speed gear should either be brown (39 teeth) or black (40 teeth). If you have the ID code of "Y8", the driven gear should be red with 17 teeth and the speed gear will be either grey (44 teeth) or blue (45 teeth).

The ID code will be on a data plate somewhere on the transmission case.
