real stupid question

Im changing the coil on my car, 88 305 , tbi.
I took the old coil out, sort of. I took off the 2 bolts holding the thing down, but how do I get the coil out of the mounting thing to put the new one in?

Those are rivets, you have to drill out those 2 rivets that hold the mounting bracket to the coil. You could also just cut off the head of the rivet and then knock the rest of the rivet out with a hammer and punch.

Once you remove the rivets, you'll realize that you need something to mount the new coil to the brackets. Just go to an auto parts store or hardware store and find some bolts and locknuts to mount the stock brackets to the new coil.

I have no idea why GM designed their coils like that.

Most of us luck out, the replacement MSD coils come with the bolts and locknuts needed.

I knew that was going to be the answer, mostly hoping it wasn't. I even tryed going to some local part stores and buying a new bracket, but no one had it. Had to break down and just drill them. almost as fun as having to go find a metric rachet for some random nut.
