Ground wire melting

Help!

I just recently got the car starting again and while driving, the throttle stuck at 6000 rpm.

I had no choice and shut the ignition off. Now the car wont start. No battery power, no cranking, nothing. And also, the ground wire from the battery to chassis glows red and melts the outside of the wire and smokes every time i try to start the car.

What is causing this? Please keep in mind i'm using a msd digital 6.

I'm having a similar problem after my commander950 shorted out. Now is seems that I have a short to ground somewhere but don't know where it is.

My jumper cables started to melt when I tried to jump the car.

Manic Z, check your battery to motor ground. the battery to chassis can't carry much current. with a bad battery to motor ground & a good motor to chassis ground the battery to chassis ground will smoke.

Free Bird, check all your cables from the battery to where they hook to the motor & starter, & also the connections at both ends of the cables.

If they have gone to a higher output alternator they may want to look at using the heavier guage wire.

your absolutely correct Trickster, upgrading the wiring is always a good ideal, even if everything is still stock.
if the alternator has been upgraded, then bigger/more grounds is a must. depending on how much bigger they upped the alt output, a bigger alt to battery output wire may be in order too.

Thank you gentlemen. It was indeed the battery to alternator(motor) ground. The bolt was loose.

I can't beleive something so simple was giving me such a headache.

Also check your throttle cable. When you lose a ground the cable will carry some current too and may burn some, stick in the cable housing.

My cable was grounding out at the starter, thanks guys. The battery is dead now, but that's easy to fix.
