TPS ground connection?

The black wire of the TPS sensor goes to "sensor ground" on the ECM. Using a resistance meter I get a reading that it connects straight to ground. Does that I mean- theoretically- that I could cut that wire, tie it straight to the negative terminal of the battery and not notice a difference in performance? I don't plan on doing it, I'm just wondering if the ECM "sensor ground" connections really goes to ground for testing purposes.

You are right in theory, but don't do it. The ECM will trigger the circuit ground(batt neg) in consulation with its other computor circuits including memory, to keep your engine healthy. Good Luck!
