Tach off

Hey guys. I've had my Iroc for about 3 months now and things have been pretty smooth thusfar. Now, I did a search on this and didnt find anything relating to my problem, so here goes:

When I bought the car, I was told the tach was off about 500-1000 RPMS (too high) depending on what speed I was at. I inspected the wiring of the tach not too long ago, and realized that the wire running from the tach to the dizzy seems like its not original..aftermarket...really cheap aftermarket wire. I was wondering if maybe the quality of wire had anything to do with it or not. Also, can someone tell me exactly where the wire is supposed to be connected to, so Im 100% its connected right?

If neither of these fix it, what else could cause a tach to be off this much...I just want it to read right so I'm not running in the red when shifting out of first.

Thanks guys.
