Alternator not charging battery

Ok, Alternator went bad. So I got a new one and a new battery. I made one mistake, a big one. I hooked up the alternator wires with the battery still connected. Could this have shorted something. Because since then, the alternator is not charging the battery. I had the alternator checked and it is working properly. The battery is good to go. Ive been told that it could be a fusible link at the solenoid. I'm having a hard time getting to the starter solenoid wires without a lift. Does anyone know if this is the likely problem. Any help would be appreciated.

I can't see why it would have shorted something out if you had no load on the circuit. If the alt is not charging the battery and you're sure that the alt is putting out power, then I'd trace all your alternator wiring and see where the problem is. I'd also check all the terminals as they can get corroded or dirty and not allow current to pass through.

I have an 87 IROC and I had the same no charging problem, tested alt and it was fine, traced wires and found no probs. What I found was my FAN fuse was blown. I posted here and found out that the alt circuit is tied in thru the fan fuse. Kinda weird, and this may not be whats wrong with your car, but it fixed mine. A new fuse to replace a blown one in my FAN circuit made my alternator start charging properly.......GO FIGURE!!!!!!!!

Its funny you should say that, cause my has been giving me problems. The fan was rigged by the previous owner to bypass the temp swith and jumped directly to the fuse panel. I did tract the wires, though i havent fully checked em, i dd notice they run into the bottom of the fan

You can test a couple of the starter fuse links at this connector:
