How can I convert an '89 700R4 from electronic speedo to cable driven. I want to run an old cable driven speedometer off this trans. Do I need an entirely different tailshaft or can the outlet in thr transes be swapped? What years or parts #'s should I be looking for?

One way to do this is to just buy the VSS that has the cable drive on it. I can't find the part number (i think its for a truck) but you should be able to call the Dealer/parts store and they know what your lookin for. Also you will need the correct gear for the new sensor, just count the teeth and tell the dealer/parts store. If your not running fuel injection you dont need any of the above, you just need the insert for the cable dirve, but you will need the 700 lockup kit if you have a lockup converter. I'm not sure what your workin on but 89's should have came with the the cable drive, 90-92 had the VSS in the tranny.
