Turn signals and brake lights

This has probably been asked before, so bear with me please.
My car is an 83 trans -am with US spec lighting. Although i got my friend to give me an MOT certificate as is, the local constabulary might take a dim [no pun] view of my non-uk lighting.
So i'm going to see if i can sort something out.
Im going to use the 2 rear outer lights as indicators, ive got clear perspex and orange bulbs [they need to be orange and independant from the sidelights flashing].
So i need to stop the rear sidelights functioning as turn signals when the lights are on.
I can wire a feed from the front turn signals to supply the rears, [if anyone knows where to pick up a live from under the dash?] i've heard theres a feed from the brake light switch i need to cut and re-wire ?
If anyone can help or can point me to an article on this, it would be most appreciated.

Ok , anyone know which circuit\wire to look for that causes the front turn signal to flash, and the rears to flash the sidelights when the lights are on?
