cool that is what i was thinking. Do you think i should run a fuse, and also when i install my aftermarket gauges should i just go from the fuse box again or some where else, because that's going to be a lot of power coming from there when i get the 3 gauges and tach hooked up.

the cars have a spot in the fuse block for a fuel pump wire.. even my 83 has one... it is not used in mine because it is carbed with a mech pump. but there should be a spot up in there for it.

I know there is a fuse but i took out all of my computer wirers and i was just going to hot wire the pump, and by going from the ignition spot on the fuse box would i need a fuse. Also if i use the one spot on the fuse box for the fuel pump where will i get power for my aftermarket gauges.

IIRC, there are two unused slots in the fuse box.

i would recommend tapping into a free space on the fuse box that comes hot with the key, but run an in line fuse, either glass tube or plug in, whichever you trust more. but be careful, cuz if you dont get wiring big enough going in and out of the fuse, you could melt the plastic fuse housing without blowing the fuse.

Re: best place to get power when i turn the key on

just put your fuel pump on the slot that says ign. so it turns on when your key is in the on position. and put a 30amp fuse on it, because its going to be turned on for a long time, when your driving it. and for your gauges, your volt gauge can get the 12v from your power wire from your stereo. the water and oil only need 12v for the lights, and including the volt gauge, your can use your dash lights, so when your turn on your dash lights the lights on the gauges turn on too.
