looking for power hatch wiring diagram
anyone have a wiring diagram for my hatch circuit on a 1991 z28. I keep breaking hatch motors because after I close the hatch, the motor never stops trying to pull the hatch down and evenutally, the motor overheats and breaks. Not sure if it is indeed a wirign problem but I have one motor assemby left and I need to confirm the wiring is correct before I plug it in and try it. I need ALL the wiring diagrams for it including the diagram for the remotr hatch relase button in the console

It's a two-page spread schematic. I only have it for a 1992 Firebird. I am not sure if it's the same as the 1991 second version hatch pull-down system.
Let me now if you want me to post it.
I am sure Lon can give you a solution. He's quite knowledgeable about the power hatch and its problems.

post it is you got. I didnt know there was a second design setup for the hatch system. was the second design a better improvement or something. How can I tell what version I have. Was it a wiring revision or a hardware revision?

The 1991 second version was the 1992 version. It was a hardware revision.
Give me some time to scan, size, and post the schematic I have.

Hey Bottled,
Is it the motor that is breaking or the plastic housing for it. Mine broke on me and I got the metal re-enforced one from TDS and haven't had any more problems.

Im not exactly sure right now what exactly breaks since its been over a year since I messed with . my project is nearing completion so all the little things are getting done now. The last thing I remember was that after I shut the hatch, I could hear the motor still trying its harnest to pull the hatch down INTO the interior panels. I couldnt get the motor to stop and I even tried jumping in the back of the car to take the panels off and unlpug it but it was too late. even putting the key in and trying to open it while the motor was running didnt help. I member that there was a messy grease all over my hands after I pulled the assembly back out and I think it came from some case that cracked on the assembly. The thing was REAL hot. I know there is a procedure for putting the assemby in in the right postion and height and I am almost sure I did that back when I put the last motor in.

Well I can go watch football now then since you posted the schematics.
The extend relay is back near the hatch unit itself.
The hatch release relay is under the dash.

If that plastic case around the motor is broken then the motor will continue to run and try to pull the hatch down. That is what happened to mine, fortunately I caught it before any serious damage was done. The hatch release relay is located under the center console by the parking brake assembly. The hatch extend relay is located by the hatch pull down assembly. BTW Jade, who's playing? I won't be able to watch any because I have to go to work shortly.

the plastic case breaks because the motor is trying to pull the hatch down. the case wasnt cracked before it went into the car. I heard it "pop" and then the ECB kicked in I guess. Im gonna take a peek at the wiring and stuff and see whats up. I wonder if the relays are causing this problem. Im also gonna take a peak at TDS and see what they have for upgraded parts. Thanks guys for the help

ok I am holding in my hand a good working hatch motor assmebly and the wires on it do not match the color wires on the diagram. the extended relay has a lot more wires on it then what is in that picture.

the colors comoing out of the relay are 2 white, 2 blue, 2 black, and a brown. one of the blues has a smal plug on the end, one of the whites goes into a plastic splice and out of that comes a another white with a small plug on it.(opposite plug of the blue one, not sure if they connect to each other but the plug is the same) I check over at TDS and there pic of the stricking sensor switch for a 87-91 is the same as what is on this motor I have in front of me. Even the wires in their pic are the same as mine.
Where on this assembly does the main harness connect to? those 2 small plugs?
parts for this thing are real pricey and I am not even sure what parts I may even need,if any at all

Okay, I just looked at the schematics again and they are for the 92 camaro. On the 91 model there are two blue wires going into pin "A" of the extend relay. One goes to a connector with a red/white wire and is for the cargo light. The second blue wire goes to pin "A" of the latch position sensing switch. There are two white wires going to pin "D" of the extend relay one goes to the same connector as the first blue wire and is for the cargo light. BTW, there is a white wire that branches of from this wire and goes to pin "B" of the latch position sensing switch. The second white wire goes to the latch switch. There is a brown wire at pin "C" of the relay and goes to pin "D" of the latch position sensing switch. There is a black wire at pin "C" of the relay and this is for ground, there is a black wire that branches off and goes to the latch switch. There is also a orange wire that goes from pin "C" of the latch position sensing switch to the latch switch. BTW, the latch switch mentioned above is located on the center console.

DO these two plug into each other? cuz they can. These are the only plugs I can see on this entire unit. What has me stumped is how this unit get power and a signal from the switch? Where the heck is the "main"plug

as you can see, the only plugs on this harness are the white wire and the blue wire like you stated. there is no other loose wire except for that black ground wire which comes out of PIN B on the relay. You said PIN C for that black wire and you also said PIN C for the brown wire. I am getting confused now. My black wires are coming out of PIN B and the brown wire is coming out of PIN C

ok I have all the wiring exposed and all your wiring desriptions are correct. I donthave access to the car so I cannot confirn this red/white wire for the cargo lamp. I still need to know what powers this entire unit. You also mentioned latch switch and said it was in the console. but you also mention wires going to the latch switch which is located on the top of the assmeby unit.

Trickster, major problem here. I went to look at the wiring in the car and the entire assembly is way different then what I have in my hand here. The assembly in the car is a LOT smaller then the one i have. There is 2 plugs in the back of the car. one plugs into the hatch motor assembly and the other I dont know for sure but I think it goes to the cargo light. The plug that goes into the motor has 5 wires: red/wht, 3 blks, and a blk/org wire. When I plug the plug into the motor, the relay back there clicks, When I hit the hatch button on the console, a relay under there clicks also. nothing at all happens with the motor except that it heats up real hot. The motor assmbly I have in the car isnt even pictured at TDS. can you shed some light on this.
update: I went and looked at the 92 wiring diagram and that is indeed what I have in my 91. I guess I have a late 91 car now. Now I have to find a hatch assembly for a 92. That should be real easy
