Keyless entry?

My little sister just purchased a 92 Firebird, nicely equipped and all, and has power lock/windows. I was wondering if any models that year had keyless entry, and how to find out. Thanks for the help guys!

There were a few, however they did not come from the factory that way. These were vehicles that had dealer installed systems and the service manuals do not have any schematics for that feature.

Retrofitted several cars with this. With the power locks already there it's pretty simple. Get a kit from JC Whitney for about $40, works really good and has the trunk/hatch release too.

Not sure if this will get answered, piggybacking of someone else's thread. let's see.

I have keyless entry in my 91RS. It's part of a Viper alarm. Since it came back from getting body work on the passenger side, the driver side door no longer locks when I engage the auto-lock feature. Passenger side works just fine.

This is also something that has happened in my Honda Civic. Any ideas on what to do?

Do you hear the lock actuator activating? If so, then they just didn't properly reconnect the mechanical portion of the actuator to the lock. If you don't hear that, then it's something electrical which is strange because unless they had to remove the door, it really shouldn't have been messed with. If they had to pop open the door and mess around inside, I'd bet they just didn't reconnect the actuator to the lock.

Forgive me, but what is the actuator? When I press the button, if I remember correctly, the lock slider on the door, moves just a bit. It thus makes me think it wants to move but can't. But I would have to double check to confirm that.

The actuator is what moves the lock. They seem to go out or not work as good quite often with years of use.

So if I were to go into the door to see if it is connected, what would a I look for? Is it going to be attached to the locking bar across the door? Or closer to where the wires feed into the door by the hinge?

Sorry, but I am quite a noob with cars in general. I'm trying to learn bit by bit.

If it jerks the little locking button on the door, then is that indicative or perhaps a frayed wire or not connection at all?

The actuactor is kind of cylinder shaped - connects to your manual lock in the door panel. Its possible you could have a not-so-good connection to it and its not getting enough power. More than likely if it kind of moves the lock but isn't quite getting the job done, it probably needs to be replaced. How does the lock work when you just press the button on the door panel inside the car(not on your alarm remote)?

completely non-functional. Doesn't even produce the same jerk with the lock.

When I hit the remote, I get a little budge. When I hit the button on the inside of the door, I get nothing.

I have to manually reach and slide the lock closed or open. The button inside is the completely non-functional part.

The passenger side does not work when I press the inside button. The passenger side DOES work when I use my keyless entry remote.

Sorry, hope that's clearer.

Your switches inside aren't hooked up. Probably whoever installed the alarm disconnected them for some reason. It doesn't really matter since you have a remote, but i would want them hooked up anyway.

If i was you, I would replace the actuator. Its probably it, but even if it isn't, it's old enough that it should be replaced anyway. To do this you have to take off your inside door panel.

Thanks for the pointers.

My 91 RS has ~170000 miles and the pass power window motor is almost dead, the driver's is not good and both power door lock actuators need replacement. Tis the season for these cars. It's been almost 1-1/2 decades for the latest 3rd gens & a lot of the more "used" vehicles' power accessories are going out. My door lock actuators probably have a bit of life in them if I just readjusted things in the door, but if I'm in there anyway, I'll probably just replace them.
