Cutting injector wiring harness
Hey guys
Well, the clip on one of my TBI injectors broke to the point where I had to use a screwdriver to get the harness off of the injector every time I needed to. This got annoying, so I got a new clip from a junkyard, cut the wires going to the clip and crimped on the new clip (I'm going to solder and heat shrink it in a while, I just needed a quick fix). The amount of wire that I used from the new clip is the same amount that I cut off the old. The guys in my car club were saying something about this messing up how the injector will be firing by adding resistance. Now I understand that the injector is essentially an inductor, and I guess the crimp connector would serve as a resistor making a little LR circuit, however, the resistance of the crimpy can't be enough to mess anything up can it? I've watched it idle and the fuel spray looks fine.
Any EE's out there?
Tony

I'm no EE, but my job does require me to review & redesign circuits from time to time and as long as it's a solid, clean crimp (i.e.: like a factory crimp) I can't see how it would actually ever cause a problem. There should be some SMALL added resistance, but the difference should be in the order of one injector to the next. These parts are not 0.001% tolerance (not that really anything is). Not every injector/harness is perfect straight from the factory. If you're really worried, solder the wire on or even just solder the crimp itself.
