Okay, i had bought a new alt. in 2003 for a 1968 Chev pickup, wellt the pick was a rust bucket, and i was offered a 1983 camaro berlinetta for free, needed engine and tranny, so i put the 68 chev pickup 350 engine in the camaro, One Slight problem, everything else went together like cake.
The alt i had bought in 2003 i wanted to use because it was new and worked like new, and the alt that came with the car looked like S***, so anyway theres a connector on the back of every alt, with two wires, one is ground and the other is black and goes somewhere regulator? well the connector on the camaro is like this - - and the 68 chevy 2003 alt looks like = can you see my problem, I remember i looked at which wire went to the ground and to the regulator on both alts and i pulled out the wire with female connectors still attached and swaped the plastic connectors so i could use the new alt. in the camaro.. Does any one understand any of this?

If you know where the old wires went, check this out:

On the 3rd or 4th page, there is a wiring diagram. Sounds like you didn't connect the excitation circuitry properly. Typically, you would connect a small gauge wire from the alt back to the battery (+); make certain it is switched so it only comes on with the key.

well i did do that from the terminal + to the Pos. post on the alt,
then the wire connector looks like l l well, one wire is black, then the other wire is white and goes to the ground post on the alt. after finding out the alt didnt work i figured i'd run a neg wire to that post, it didnt change anything.
