Alternator and Choke weirdness
Alternator and Choke weirdness
I'm having a hard time diagnosing this one. Hopefully someone out there has had a similar experience and can point me in the right direction. I've been having trouble with my alternator. I had a drain on the battery that only went away when i disconected the 2 wire clip on the alternator. After checking the wiring diagrams, I discovered that someone had switched the wires in the clip, so I switched them back. no more drain, but now the alternator won't charge, and the choke light stays on.
Take out a voltmeter and check the voltage in the each wire. With the engine off, key on, and the alternator signal wire connected, there is 1.5V in the line. Disconnect the choke lead, and the voltage is back to 12V+. With the engine running, the voltage is 1.5V wether the choke is connected or not.
I have the alternator running off the 12V choke line with a jumper wire, and no choke, but would like to get this straigtened out. Cold start are a beach :-)
