EGR module wires

I've recently swapped my head gaskets on my 88 305 TPI, when I removed the ignition coil the EGR module is on the same bracket (L shaped thing with 2 vacuum hoses going to EGR valve and TB). On the back of this facing the firewall was a connector with 2 wires, one white and the other red with a black stripe. The connector crumbled to nothing when I unplugged it. I've put the engine back together and shoved the wires in minus the connector (with a bit of silicon to hold them in place) and we're running fine without any codes however I'm concerned that I could have the polarity of these two wires wrong which would screw up my vacuum. Not been able to find any info as to which way round they should be, I've put the red one at the top and the white one at the bottom.

Can anyone confirm?

Thanks

Matthew
