Obviously, your car is in mourning. (sorry, couldn't resist.)
Your fuse block is located directly beneath the driver's side gauge cluster. Depending on if you have hush panels or not, you may have to unscrew a small panel that has "FUSES" written on it. If there are no panels on the underside of the dash, just look for a little 5x5 inch box with little multicolored chips inside it.
Pull the fuses out one at a time and see if the little wire in the center of the fuse is burned through. If it is, replace with a new fuse of the same amp rating (they're also the same color). If not, put the fuse back in the same place you took it from.
If, after replacing any burnt fuses you found, the lights still don't come on, check the fuses again. If the same ones burned out, your car has a short somewhere in the wiring, and troubleshooting that is going to be a royal pain in the doohickey. If it comes to that, I'd enlist the help of someone you know who is good with electronics.

if it is not the fuse it is usually the remote dimmer switch that is in the dash on the right side of the colluum

'86 camaro light issue
Hey guys,
I've got an '86 Camaro (IROC) that has this exact problem. When I was bringing it home from storage in the spring all the lights died. Everything controlled by the dimmer (head, dash, heat, dome).
Where does the power source for the dimmer come from? I've checked the fuses. I have the haynes manual and thier diagrams suck.

I had the same problem in my trans am and I happened to be my cigarette lighter. All I did was unhook it and the lights worked. I guess it was grounded. You could check that. As a last resort you can get the chilton or haynes manual and follow the electrical path for that fuse and check each light one by one until you find the problem.

I have the haynes manual. The diagrams do show what's connected to what, but there is no indication of where things are located. Plus there's no legend. What the @#$% does SXL GXL mean? I assume the numbers like 3.0 .8 etc... are the size of wire. I also assume the 10 digit numbers are GM part numbers. It's easier to just figure it out without the haynes BS.
Oh yeah, I measured the cig lighter for a short, it's fine.

Thanks for the help guys. Turns out it was a fusable link at the solenoid. No idea why it picked that time to blow. What a PITA because I broke my solenoid trying to get the wires off.
