turn signal problem

It all started when my passenger rear turn signal light went out. When I went to replace the bulb the socket was all melted and charred. I bought a new socket and bulb and realized that the turn signal works when the lights are not on. When the lights are on just the passenger side rear tail light doesn't work. I don't know what to do and need help before I get a ticket.

I have a hunch that you twisted the wires together and used electrical tape...

Did you solder and heat shrink each connection? Especially since moister surrounds them?

If I remember correctly, there are two wires that goto the socket. I really do not think it matters which color is correct if there are only two wires. Try doing a propper wire repair and if that doesnt work, I'de say check your ground wires. It's hard to guess at these things without something to go by. Do you have a volt meter that you can use to take some voltage drops? That would help... Anyway, Goodluck and I hope you find the problem.
