Need some help IDing and fixing trunk wires...
What causes people to simply snip off wires?!
I always though I only needed a new hatch release button, as it simply isn't there, but maybe not. In tear down, I found the following.. The first poicture is the back of the plastic panel with it where the hatch hook locks into, and is the back of our little well...
As you can see, there are wires hanging off. Obviously one goes to the well light, but what are the others? Are they for the remote release? It's an 82, no pull down motor...
The second picture is the wires that were also behind that panel, laying loose... There are two plugs on the first wire, and the other wire is just bare, with just an end as is shown..
Any ideas?
Also, any idea why one would pull out the hatch button, and snip what I think is the hatchh wire? It there a reason?

Some of that is third brake light. The 4 metal pads on the plastic cover line up with four doohickies on a spring on the trunklid.

Hmm.. But my car doesn't have a third brakelight.. So perhaps someone replaced that trunk piece with this one?
But then, what are the wires that are coming from the car itself?

LOL - good question!
See the 4 little metal pads on the interior plastic piece? They are supposed to connect to 4 prongs on a spring in the trunk lid, thus making a connection for the third brake light whene the lid is closed. So, trace the wires for the 4 little metal pads on that plastic, and tape those off somewhere - you no have 3rd brake light, you no need these wires. That's a start anyways.
