Make sure you do not have a brake light short.
Make sure you do not have a vacuum leak in the
brake booster system.</B>

I'd look into vacuum leaks, a short wouldn't make the car shut off unless the alt was bad too

A mechanic .

Definetly steer clear of Pep boys. I have had bad experiences, as well as many others on this site.

Do u know any local places you feel comfortable bringing it to?

With the car setting in place , remove the brake booster vac. line, plug off line, start car and depress brake pedal for the amount of time that it normally takes for car to die, even go a little longer. If the car stays running fine, you've found your problem (bad internal leaking brake booster). More than likely not elec. as fuses would blow if there was a dead short created when pushing on the brakes. Good luck!!

I was tweaking around with my distributor timing this last weekend and when I advanced the timing too far, the same thing would happen: in gear with the brake on, the engine would get more & more rough until it died -- usually at ~30 seconds.

check the spark plugs, a fouled spark plug will make the car die when sitting with the brake for a while

I've been monitoring my fuel economy since my distributor tweak. I went from 210 miles per tank to 250. Yay me! I also found an exhaust leak which is freaking out my O2 sensor. I'm dumping too much fuel per cycle. Probably exacerbated my spark timing problem. Try to check for exhaust leaks upstream of the O2 sensor.

re: car turning off when brake pressed

OK, well ive been working allot lately so i havent had the chance until a week ago to have it looked at and a mechanic said it was the throttle body sensor, BUT when put in it STILL turned off! He idled my car down lower, said it was idled to high, a mechanic can't even figure out whats wrong with my car , not unless he was stupid.....this is a real pain the the ***, atleast i know its not the sensor....I'll get all of the things yal listed looked at specifically to be sure it isn't them.... Thx for all your help and if you have any more it will be very appreciated --thx---- chero
