Please help with alternator wiring
Let me start off by being the first one to say that I am an idiot.
With that out of the way, here's my problem. I have an 87 Trans Am originally equipped with an LG4 and a T5, previous owner swapped to a non computer controlled carb. I pulled the engine out over the winter and built a new 350 for it.
While the engine was out I cut out a lot of wires that were no longer of any use to me. Unfortunately I found out tonight that I cut the connector for my alternator, and all the wire attached to it. I still have the heavy wire coming from the battery, but the plastic snap in connector on the back of the alternator is MIA.
How do I fix this? I realize that I need to go to the junkyard and get a new alternator connector and wire it in, but how? Since my accessory set up is the one year only 87 style, does that mean the connector is one year only as well? Can I grab one off of something else? Where did the missing wire(s) go? Colors/size? Coming from the firewall connector next to the brake booster, or from the ECM? What do they do?
Please help me, as this project is becoming more of a nightmare with each passing day. All I want to do is go drive my toy before gas gets up to $5 a gallon.
