Electronic problem after conversion
Electronic problem after conversion
Help.....Jim, Tim, & Trickster or Anyone with ideas!
My husband is trying to iron out one last problem with an 700R4 to T5 conversion. This has been one headache after another, a very long process.
Our Car is: 1988 V6 Camaro RS (yes, the one they only sold in CA, TX & FL) No cruise standard speedometer (not digital)
Hydraulic clutch is from a 1987 Camaro V6
Transmission is from a 1989 Camaro V6
We replaced the auto prom with a manual prom.
Problem:
The car intermittently idles high 1500-2000, and the service engine light goes on and off. It registers an error code 24, is this probably a VSS error? The high idle will sometimes kick down right after starting and/or driving, and sometimes takes a long time, and sometimes not at all during that driving sequence. The same with the service engine light. How do you check the circuit for the VSS?

I'm not sure how to check the VSS, but i would seriously concider the idea that the chip you tossed in is fubar'd, or something totaly unrelated (tps sensor?). Keep us updated though! and good luck!

could be the tps? My car used to do something similar to that, it would idle up real high (2000+ rpm) the drop and almost die...if you have fuel injection....check the injector wiring also.
Hope that helps
