oil light question

I swaped a 95 lt1 into a 87 firebird and everything works except the oil light will not go out. I am now running an oil pressure gage, so the old oil pressure light in the 87 car is now hooked up to the oil level sensor. From what I saw in the wiring diagrams of the 87 and the 95 this should work fine the sensor sould just ground out and complete the circut and the light comes on. But it is staying on all the time, any ideas. I know that my wiring is right, I hooked the brown wire (oil level feed) on the c220 conector of the lt1 harness up to the tan wire of the 87 fuse box (which is the oil light).

Thanks

The light and the guage use a different sender. Did you use the original sender for the light? The wire could be grounded somewhere.

I am sorry that my wording is confussing above. the oil pressure gage was added in and uses its own sensor. What I did was I used the stock lt1 oil level sensor and spliced it to the original oil pressure light in the car, since the I am now using a oil pressure gage and the light is no longer needed for pressure so I thought I would hook it to oil level.

My car (87 firebird) had all idiot lights in it, so the original oil pressure sensor works the same way as the oil level sensor on the lt1, By grounding out. But the light never goes out.

oil level is right
wiring is right

any ideas?

The oil light is an oil PRESSURE light. The oil level measures the LEVEL of oil. The light works by grounding. I believe the level sensor works by measuring resistance between the two wires that go to it.

Verify you have the the correct oil level. Use a DMM to check the sensor.

Check if the sensor is NO or NC.

DMM is a digital multimeter right?
what is NO NC?

and what do I check the sensor for?

the sensor is new!
the oil level is right!
