ECM Removal!

I swapped out my TBI and put in a 355 with a carb. I was curious if I can remove the ECM for good.
I wasn't sure if it is controlling anything like gauges or ac/heater controls.

Thanks in advance!

lol! Ironic. I had a 91 bird that I was planning on removing the ECM from. It had a 3.1L so it was going to involve an engine swap. I never did get around to it. So the other day I bought an 84 TA, and the guy had removed the ECM all together and rewired most of the car...it wasn't the best job...but it runs just fine and that's what matters. The only issues that the car is having is the stereo shutting off when you turn the headlights on. lol. But to the point...yes, it's totally possible to remove the ECM all together. You just have to consider the few things that are being run off the ECM. I'm not sure of everything...sorry that I can't give you specifics right now. I'm in the process of wiring the car all over again. And I'll tell ya, without that ECM it is EASY to wire that car. 2 days and she's almost done. The only advice that I can give you(although there are prolly easier ways...) is that if you're gonna remove the ECM read up on your electrical system. get diagrams and schematics. I think the easiest way to go is to just rewire the entire car without the ECM...that way you know all your wiring is good, done right, and that there are no exposed hot wires going anywhere...

I'm done rambling now...lol

I will disconnect it this evening and see what happens. As of now, nothing is connected too it under the hood. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

No problem. I'm hoping to completely finish up the new wiring tomarrow. Let me know if you run into any problems, I might be able to help.

The cruise control, if you have one, requires a ground.
