vss problems

hey just wandering if anyone had any ideas i have an 89 iroc about a year or more ago my speedo cable broke got lazy never fixed it just put some electrical tape over check engine light it came on for vss code other than that no problems well i had stock gauges then i recently came across a corvans classics setup {auto meter} there all electrical i put them in replaced my cable with a speed sensor for the electric speedo i ran a jumper wire to the stock vss wire well i notice it shiften kinda different ps i have a new b&m tranny figure i just didnt have the kick down cable set right never could get it right well now just the other day my speedo stopped working it must have some kinda circuit breaker ? it started working again right in about 10mins. on its own but i notice when it wasnt working the car shifted about like it should so i thought well i never did anything about it well last night it did it again speedo went dead car started shifting good but i notice also stopping at lights/stop signs it doesnt like to idle it wants to die out well no acourse i havnt done anything yet speedos working again and its running good but shiften weird still i figure i got something wired wrong or wrong vss signal going to computor maybe i need a different speed sensor i could i geuss unhook the vss wire from the computor dump the computor uknow unhook battery and let the computor reboot and i would be ok ? but i was also told not having the vss hooked up hurts gas miles ? but i would like to keep or i guess i should say get my cruise control back it doesnt work either but hasnt since speedo cable broke? any suggestions would be great
